Since the 2018 election of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, or AMLO, Mexico has taken center-stage in the regional politics of the Americas. Mexico has been critical of US policy on the blockade of Cuba, sanctions on Venezuela and failed paradigms of Central American development and US migration policies. What’s behind Mexico’s policies and how do they fit into the broader geopolitical picture in the Western Hemisphere?
