Have you heard of the battle of Hayes Pond? It’s not a battle you read about in your textbooks, but it should be. This #IndigenousPeoplesDay we want to honor the many incredible examples of resistance of native people throughout history.
The battle of Hayes Pond took place in North Carolina in 1958. After a cross-burning on a Lumbee woman’s yard, 500 Lumbee people drove out the Klu Klux Klan in a display of heroism worthy of more than the single statue commemorating it.
