One Pair of Gloves Won’t Cut It: Sanitation Workers Strike

A group of sanitation workers have been striking in New Orleans for three weeks to demand a livable wage of $15 an hour, PPE, and a union. The city government praises frontline workers in word but pays them poverty wages and replaces them with prison slave labor.

Joining the show is Daytrien Wilken a representative from the striking workers at City Waste Union to discuss the workers struggle.⠀ ⠀ Also joining the show is Norris Henderson, Executive Director of VOTE, and Paul Wright Editor of Prison legal News, discussing the issue of prisoners rights and prison labor in New Orleans.⠀ ⠀ Photo from City Workers Union.⠀ ⠀ #SupportTheHoppers #BlackWorkersMatter #BlackLaborMovement #strike #workersrights #laborrights #workers #blackworkers #garbagemen #sanitation #neworleans #COVID19 #coronavirus #pandemic #hazardpay #union #livablewage #PPE
